Types
of till fraud
|
Eskimo
Solution |
| Sweet-Hearting:
Where the till operator is working with an
accomplice (sweet-heart) & passes items
through at a lower price or even free of charge! |
When
staff members are aware that every item of stock
is accounted for, shrinkage of this sort is
reduced dramatically. In addition, Eskimo allows a
restricting of staff members authorised to perform
discounts. |
| Substitute
Scanning: Where the till operator passes
two items over the scanner at the same time. |
With
the above in mind, knowledge that finite ‘End 0f
Shift’ reports can be run, will dissuade a lot
of this type of till fraud. |
| Returns
and refunds: Items of stock are taken
from the shelves, & presented directly for a
refund. Cash is paid to an accomplice, or to the
till operator. |
Eskimo
allows a restricting of staff members authorised
to perform refunds. A policy of refunding solely
on presenting a valid receipt will eliminate this
problem. However, the tight stock control Eskimo
commands will also help. |
| No
Sales: 'No sales' can accumulate large
quantities of cash in the till, and should only
show as exceptional items. They should be checked,
in particular towards the end of the shift. |
The
Eskimo does not have a 'No Sales' feature. Access
to the cash drawer is limited to those with
security privileges only. |
| Voids
are a variation of 'No sale', where a genuine
purchase is cancelled after the customer has left
the premises. The surplus is then removed from the
till before shift end. |
Because
the void function is a necessary operation in the
retail environment, the Eskimo caters for this.
However, all voided items are logged, & an
abandoned sale requires a reason. Also, Eskimo
allows a restricting of staff members authorised
to perform discounts |

Why
Eskimo?
All
software developed by Nebula Systems (UK) Ltd is subject
to a name already given to a nebulae.
The
Eskimo Nebula (NGC 2392) is so called because, when viewed
through ground-based telescopes, it resembles the face of
an Eskimo surrounded by a fur parka. For more information click
